Women's Leadership Initiative
The Women's Leadership Initiative (WLI) of ICA is a transformative program designed to support the social and economic empowerment of women and girls in India, particularly those who face daunting societal and cultural barriers to self-sufficiency. With a commitment to building life skills, values, and leadership, WLI employs a holistic learning framework and collaborates with local community-based partners to foster a more equitable world. Our programs aim to dismantle the physical, cultural, and educational barriers that hinder women's full participation in all aspects of life.
Key goals of WLI include:
- Strengthening Community-Based Networks: We support and enhance networks that empower women at the grassroots level, ensuring a sustainable foundation for growth and empowerment.
- Leadership Development: Through targeted training and mentorship, WLI fosters leadership qualities among women, enabling them to lead and inspire within their communities.
- Skill Development: Customized workshops and presentations are crafted to develop specific skills, addressing the unique needs and circumstances of the participants. This approach not only builds competence but also boosts confidence and agency.
How it Works
Partnership plays a critical role in the success of WLI, as we work collaboratively with local NGOs and community groups that intimately understand the needs of their members. This synergy allows for the design of highly effective and adaptable programs that are sensitive to the nuances of different regions and cultures in India.
- Life Skills: Our workshops provide social and interpersonal skills training to marginalized adolescent girls and young women, using participatory methods to enhance their awareness and self-assurance.
- Livelihood: We conduct targeted workshops aimed at improving the income-generating and entrepreneurial capabilities of women, fostering long-term economic empowerment and sustainability.
- Leadership: Our transformational leadership training enables participants to recognize and harness their own skills and potential, leading to a balanced and purposeful personal and professional life. This holistic empowerment benefits not only the individual women but also has a profound impact on their communities and society at large, promoting gains in political, economic, and cultural spheres.
